For that reason, I’ve put them aside for now and I’m waiting for an update that removes the need for a hub. In other words, I’m hoping for a Home Assistant integration that can connect these devices without going through the SwitchBot system. I don’t want to be dependent on a hub.
Aside from that, it’s a beautifully designed sensor with a great size, and it uses AA batteries, which is perfect.
So come on, SwitchBot… let’s gooooo!

The matter hub makes this dead simple to setup for HomeKit! I’m putting several throughout my home. I’ve installed 2 presence sensors previously and this is by far the easiest, plus no wires makes installing a breeze. I’m replacing my old units and adding more.

Price/performance of the mmWave presence detector is great!
I bought the SwitchBot Smart mmWave radar motion sensor to finally use a reliable presence detector for my smart home — and was pleasantly surprised. The sensor not only detects movement, but actually whether people/animals are still in the room, even if they barely move, are lying under a blanket or are standing behind a shower wall. That is exactly what classic PIR motion detectors cannot do.
The sensor has AI support and “learns”. At this stage, I am unable to assess how this will affect the future.
Easy setup & matter integration:
The installation via the SwitchBot Hub was completed within a few minutes. As is typical with SwitchBot, the process is very well managed. I use the sensor via Matter in Home Assistant and via the Homeyapp in Homey. At the time this recession is published, the integration is only available via the trial version of the SwitchBot Homey app.
There, it is immediately recognized as a presence sensor/presence detector. The brightness in the room will “still? “not transferred. The data is updated surprisingly quickly, which makes it perfect for automations, such as:
• Switch off lights automatically when no one is in the room
• Heating/air-conditioning only active when presence is detected
• Pause media system when leaving the room
Very accurate and reliable mmWave detection: mmWave radar technology works very reliably in everyday life.
Unlike pure motion detectors, this sensor also detects static movements or the presence of sitting people. This makes it ideal for living rooms, offices, bedrooms or home offices. The size of the room can be easily adjusted via the app.
Design & Assembly
The device is small, unobtrusive and the status LED can be deactivated. As a result, the sensor is also suitable for visibly mounted positions without interfering in the room.
Delivery and processing:
Delivery was fast and securely packaged — typically Amazon. As always with SwitchBot, the workmanship is very high-quality and not cheap. The battery compartment is secured with a rubber seal, making it suitable for humid rooms!
Price-performance
For me, the sensor offers a top price-performance ratio in the area of mmWave presence sensors. I haven't needed any support so far, so no verdict on that.
Conclusion:
If you're looking for a reliable smart home presence detector, you can't go wrong with the SwitchBot mmWave Radar Motion Sensor. Particularly recommended for users of Home Assistant, SwitchBot Hub, Alexa, Apple Home & HomeKit via Matter. I ordered another one today, which replaces a HuE motion detector.

Better than just PIR sensor
Had issues getting the unit to display as a trigger device for automations. After a few weeks it turned out be the app version Iwas using would not update to latest version due me signing up to Google Play beta testing.
Not had any issues with beta previously.
I had to unjoin beta, then uninstall and reinstall the app. THEN the device showed up in the automations. Sadly, using automations to turn on a bulb when the device triggers, results in a delay turning the bulb on. I can get to the other side of the kitchen before the light comes on.
HOWEVER, while waiting for solution to the initial issue of the device not showing in automations, I set it up with Local Linkage. Basically directly bluetoothed to the bulb.
This method results in a much faster response time of the bulb coming on.
I stayed using this method for now. Downside to this is after battery replacement in the sensor, I will have to re-enable the local linkage automations. They should not be deleted, just disabled. But as the batteries will last 2 years (depending on usage), I should not have to worry about this too much.
Support could not really help with the initial issue and eventually had to escalate to R&D.
Unit obviously too new for work instructions to have filtered down to 1st line support.
The actual device looks identical to the PIR sensor. Even to the point of the backing plates being interchangeable. Handy if you use velcro to position the units like me.
It has better light sensing adjustments than the PIR one. PIR is just Dim or Bright. Presence unit goes from 1 to 20. Awesome.
It uses AI for the set up process. Which seems to work well to filter out source of false positive triggers.
I would like the function to be able to set up monitoring zones, to activate other automations using one sensor. Like what LinknLink have. But the LNL one is mains powered, and tbh does not work that great, so maybe I am asking too much of the tech at this point.
All in all I am pretty happy with this Switchbot device.
I will likely buy another one for use else where in the house.

The sensor not only detects movement, but actually whether people/animals are still in the room, even if they barely move, are lying under a blanket or are standing behind a shower wall. That is exactly what classic PIR motion detectors cannot do.
The sensor has AI support and “learns”. At this stage, I am unable to assess how this will affect the future.
Easy setup & matter integration:
The installation via the SwitchBot Hub was completed within a few minutes. As is typical with SwitchBot, the process is very well managed. I use the sensor via Matter in Home Assistant and via the Homeyapp in Homey. At the time this recession is published, the integration is only available via the trial version of the SwitchBot Homey app.
There, it is immediately recognized as a presence sensor/presence detector. The brightness in the room will “still? “not transferred. The data is updated surprisingly quickly, which makes it perfect for automations, such as:
• Switch off lights automatically when no one is in the room
• Heating/air-conditioning only active when presence is detected
• Pause media system when leaving the room
Very accurate and reliable mmWave detection: mmWave radar technology works very reliably in everyday life.
Unlike pure motion detectors, this sensor also detects static movements or the presence of sitting people. This makes it ideal for living rooms, offices, bedrooms or home offices. The size of the room can be easily adjusted via the app.
Design & Assembly
The device is small, unobtrusive and the status LED can be deactivated. As a result, the sensor is also suitable for visibly mounted positions without interfering in the room.
Delivery and processing:
Delivery was fast and securely packaged — typically Amazon. As always with SwitchBot, the workmanship is very high-quality and not cheap. The battery compartment is secured with a rubber seal, making it suitable for humid rooms!
Price-performance
For me, the sensor offers a top price-performance ratio in the area of mmWave presence sensors. I haven't needed any support so far, so no verdict on that.
Conclusion:
If you're looking for a reliable smart home presence detector, you can't go wrong with the SwitchBot mmWave Radar Motion Sensor. Particularly recommended for users of Home Assistant, SwitchBot Hub, Alexa, Apple Home & HomeKit via Matter. I ordered another one today, which replaces a HuE motion detector.

Better than just PIR sensor
Had issues getting the unit to display as a trigger device for automations. After a few weeks it turned out be the app version Iwas using would not update to latest version due me signing up to Google Play beta testing.
Not had any issues with beta previously.
I had to unjoin beta, then uninstall and reinstall the app. THEN the device showed up in the automations. Sadly, using automations to turn on a bulb when the device triggers, results in a delay turning the bulb on. I can get to the other side of the kitchen before the light comes on.
HOWEVER, while waiting for solution to the initial issue of the device not showing in automations, I set it up with Local Linkage. Basically directly bluetoothed to the bulb.
This method results in a much faster response time of the bulb coming on.
I stayed using this method for now. Downside to this is after battery replacement in the sensor, I will have to re-enable the local linkage automations. They should not be deleted, just disabled. But as the batteries will last 2 years (depending on usage), I should not have to worry about this too much.
Support could not really help with the initial issue and eventually had to escalate to R&D.
Unit obviously too new for work instructions to have filtered down to 1st line support.
The actual device looks identical to the PIR sensor. Even to the point of the backing plates being interchangeable. Handy if you use velcro to position the units like me.
It has better light sensing adjustments than the PIR one. PIR is just Dim or Bright. Presence unit goes from 1 to 20. Awesome.
It uses AI for the set up process. Which seems to work well to filter out source of false positive triggers.
I would like the function to be able to set up monitoring zones, to activate other automations using one sensor. Like what LinknLink have. But the LNL one is mains powered, and tbh does not work that great, so maybe I am asking too much of the tech at this point.
All in all I am pretty happy with this Switchbot device.
I will likely buy another one for use else where in the house.
