Having used the previous model for quite some time, I decided to "upgrade". I wasn't disappointed. Installation was a doddle, the Solar panels connect easier and have the benefit of hanging from the bottom of the "Gizmo" without the need to stick them to a curtain, plus they can be angled too.
Without doubt the motor is more powerful than the previous model and in silent/slow mode, you can be standing right next to them and wont hear a thing.
Adding them to the current App is also very simple, setting up, just like the previous model.
However, (aww, c'mon, there has to be an "However"!) The One thing that is missing from the new model setup is the ability to open/close the curtains according to the strength of Sunlight! Once I got my head around this feature on the previous model. I was able to make sure that after the initial opening of the curtains, if the Sun was too bright/strong, the curtains would close until such time as the Sun had moved round. This prevented my bedroom from getting too hot. There is a note in the App that this feature is being sorted out and I look forward to it happening soon-ish, I mean Summer isn't all that far away chaps!
If you're thinking of upgrading your current model 2, what are you waiting for, go for it! If you're new to the concept of automating what can be a chore and sometimes oversleep the Alarm clock! Then the auto opening and immediate brightness of the early morning Sun should help.
I would recommend the Solar Panels, but the battery can be charged up using a normal phone charger and will last a long time. On the previous model I charged one up more as a top up as it didn't get the same amount of sunlight like its partner and charging only takes a few minutes.
All-in-all, a very nice bit of kit.

I can't review as it is a Christmas gift and Christmas hasn't came yet.

Sceptic but loving my curtain switchbot!
We have very heavy curtains but that doesnt matter for the switchbot!
Yes you can hear them open or close.. but thats just for a minuten or less! And if you put it on silent mode you cant hear a thing!
You can reload them with usb, but with the solar switchbot you dont have to check them if they go empty. Find the right spot for recharging with the solar and you wont have to charge them by hand
I love it, im going to buy more in the future.

Curtain 3 Solar Combo

It was easy to install the system and it works really well. My cats are amazed that the curtain moves without me assisting. 😉

I am not a luddite, but I have no interest in ‘smart homes’, voice commands, hubs (sorry, SwitchBot). What I DID have an interest in was a tool that could let me sleep in darkness, and wake up with the sun… I live in a big city with big lights, and have historically had to pick between either struggling to sleep because of lights or waking up groggy in the darkness.

SwitchBot absolutely delivers, was one of the only tools in my price range, and one of the only ‘smart curtains’ that didn’t require a whole hub situation or integration nonsense.
I’ve heard it does that well, too, but.. no thanks.

I didn’t have the other models, but I can say that I can’t really hear the ultra quiet mode at all. I’ll be laying on my bed, curtain open, watching a video or something, and just notice it is closed later. I do have a decent amount of ambient noise around (city, air purifier, window AC in the next room over). I haven’t noticed it once in the week it’s been up, and it has not caused me to wake up when it opens for sunrise (disclaimer, due to the above ambient noise, I sleep with one earplug in and have for years)

Even still, I’m pretty confident it could be a seamless and non-disruptive option for a medium-heavy sleeper. I’m obsessed, I will be getting more for friends and family. I was not paid to write this, lol. It’s just very good and exactly what I wanted.

One downside: because it ships from China via DHL, the duty and fees for Canadians is about $40. This is a bummer, since it’s a US company, and I had costed it assuming I was safely under the US-Canada duty agreement. That increased the overall cost by 30%, and I spent more than I wanted as a result.
I would still buy again, but I encourage SwitchBot to ship via US!

The quality feels good and it works well and is easy to use too. The app is well designed and is easy to use. It was easy to attach the magnet and other things too the curtain pole. There is a slight delay between clicking the command for opening and closing. Overall this is a nice curtain opener and closer. Overall this is pretty good quality and works well.
