SwitchBot Kata Friends Privacy Policy
Please read the following content carefully in addition to agreeing to our App Privacy Policy (for details, please refer to Profile > Preference > About), so that you fully understand how we collect, transmit, use, and store your information when you use the service functions of the Kata Friends device, as well as how we protect this information. Please completely understand and agree to the contents of this policy. You have the right to reject this policy; however, if you do so, we will be unable to provide you with the relevant usage services for the Kata Friends device.
Please note: This function is limited to indoor home environments. It must not be used for any commercial purposes or in outdoor environments, nor for collecting and using others' personal information or for illegal purposes. For visitors to your home, you must inform them of the potential collection of personal information and obtain their consent before using this function. The information we collect may also involve personal characteristics, activities (such as human form, body characteristics), voice, behaviors, furniture items, home environment, and other personal information of you or other individuals (including children).
1. Collection of Personal Information
After you agree to use the services provided by the Kata Friends device, when the device is in voice activation mode, it will collect ambient sounds via the microphone. The locally deployed AI model will convert recognized human voices into text for analysis. When the Kata Friends device is not in sleep mode and the camera is not physically covered, it collects video footage. The local AI model will analyze the footage at certain intervals (for simple recognition of human forms, gestures, and expressions) and the analysis results will be processed by Kata Friends.
1.1 Collection of Geographical Location
Please be aware that to enable the welcome function of Kata Friends, we may need to obtain your authorization for geographical location. We use geofencing technology, allowing you to set your preferred geofenced area, such as "within 2 km of a specific address." When you enter the preset geofenced area, the Kata Friends device will automatically proceed to a predetermined location to welcome you and interact with you. We do not collect or store your real-time geographical location information; we only use geofencing technology to determine whether you are near the set area when you use the welcome function. We commit to collecting your geographical location information only after clearly informing you and obtaining your consent. You can disable the welcome function of Kata Friends in the App at any time. Once disabled, we will cease collecting related information.
1.2 Special Note on the Photo Function
If the photo function is enabled on the Kata Friends device, when the device is not in sleep mode and the camera is not physically covered and trigger conditions are met, such as recognizing a user's voice or gesture command to take a photo, or based on a built-in random mechanism, the Kata Friends device will automatically take a photo and store it locally on the device via an internal storage card. When you wish to view the photo, the App will retrieve it from the Kata Friends device over the local network and display it to you. The aforementioned photo information will not be uploaded to the cloud server.
1.3 Special Instructions for Face Recognition Function:
The Kata Friends device has a face recognition function. When users need to view faces in the App, the faces recognized by the Kata Friends device through the photo-taking function or camera will be displayed in the App. You can label the names of different faces in the App, and the App will match them based on the labeling results for you to view the photos stored by the Kata Friends device under the 1.2 Photo-Taking Function. The Kata Friends device can also display personalized interactive behaviors based on different faces. You can also view or download the face information you have entered into the App according to your specific needs. If you do not need to use this function, please delete the corresponding face information within the App by yourself.
2. Transmission and Use of Personal Information
Kata Friends device will form a diary of behavior and interaction information and transmit it to the cloud server. This diary is regularly synchronized to your App in text form , allowing you to view it at any time.
Please note that information collected by the local functions of the Kata Friends device (such as wake-up, recognition, photo-taking, etc.) will only be stored locally on the device. All information collected in Step 1 and any new data generated during the processing of this information in Step 2 will not be transmitted to any third party.
3. Storage of Personal InformationDepending on the purpose of data usage, we may anonymize your personal information during the transmission, use, and storage processes described above, ensuring that you, as the subject of the personal information, cannot be identified, and the structured data cannot be restored.

4. Withdrawal of Consent
We fully respect your data rights. If you need to stop the collection of personal information as described above, please delete the Kata Friends device from the App. The internet-connected functions of the Kata Friends device will cease immediately. We will also no longer collect or process your information using the methods described in this policy. If you choose to add and activate Kata Friends services again, you will be deemed to have accepted and acknowledged this policy, as it is a necessary prerequisite for providing our services.
