Timers do not work as expected

Using my Android phone, I have set a timer on the Switchbot to press every morning at 6am. Unfortunately, over the past 3 days, it hasn't worked.

If I set the timer in the future for 10 minutes or so (and have my phone nearby), the press function will happen. However if it's scheduled for hours into the future, it always fails.

I do not use IFTTT or any Hub.

Why is this happening?

If I manually press the button in the app, the switchbot activates as expected.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for your update. May I know are you using the latest Android phone?

I am having the exact same issue. The timers simply don't work at all when you leave the device on it's own. I am using a Pixel 3.

Hi Jus,

Please make sure you click the "V" mark before quilting the timer setting page, so your setting was stored into the Bot.

We noticed many users had experienced similar problems. So we are also working on the user experience, so you don't need to click the "V" mark to save the timers.

We had a problem before with similar symptom back in September, but it should has been fixed in the App update that time.

To further address your problem, don't hesitate to share your timer setting screenshots in "Feedback" menu in the SwitchBot App.

Cheers,

Linda

@support The UI for the setting of timers really is very poor and it is not surprising that folks are having trouble with it. The clock face is just bizarre and would be better replaced with the standard iOS UI for setting timers.

Additionally, one should not have to tick a setting in order to save it. It’s not 1990 and just leaving the UI should just ‘save’ it!

Please could this be worked on for the next release? It has been a problem for a while now.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The timer UI is a bit weird but I figured it out. That was not the problem. In answer to you question, I definitely tapped the "V" and the app reported that the timers had been "set". Interestingly, the first timer I set did work. (This was only a few minutes ahead of the time when I sent the list of timers to the device and also while my phone was in bluetooth range.) After the first timer worked I then double checked the timer list and verified that my timers had been "Saved" to the device. However after a few hours the device seemed to delete the timers and they not longer appeared in the timer list and predictably the device did not activate when I wanted it to. I didn't sync the clock though and maybe that was my mistake.

Hi, thanks for your information. Could you help to report this issue through the app's 'feedback' (in the left sidebar). We can get more information like your App's version and bot's firmware version from there. Thanks a lot.

Hi Jus,

This issue is now as our top priority now.

Given your quote:

"After the first timer worked I then double checked the timer list and verified that my timers had been "Saved" to the device. However after a few hours the device seemed to delete the timers and they not longer appeared in the timer list..."

The missing timer sounds like a software bug.

Any screenshot before and after the timer setting is of great helpful.

To any one experiencing similar issue, don't hesitate to report via "Feedback" in SwitchBot App, so we could resolve it sooner.

Cheers,

Linda

Hi,

My timers disappeared again. This time they lasted for a few days though which was better. I synced the clock and set two timers and this time I left the phone that I was using to set the timers within bluetooth range permanently. For the first few days the device acted well, the timers stayed active and could be viewed from within the app. However, after about 5 days the timers disappeared completely and the as a result the device did not activate automatically. I have attached an image of the screen that I see when I have send a timer to the device.

Hi how is your bot's battery level? The timers will be removed if the device got reboot...

It's brand new so I didn't think to check but the battery is very low. There is no indicator on the dashboard that shows this. I think there should be. At the moment the only way to see the battery level is to go into settings and thentap on Firmeware and Battery.. I will replace the battery and report back.

If it is brand new then I'd get the device itself replaced, not just the battery. Something is not quite right there.

Hi Jus,

We can take care of your new battery cost during the test. We can also send out new SwitchBot if necessary.

The battery level is not accurate on current firmware for some batches of batteries. So a brand new battery from a 3rd party will definitely be helpful to figure out it is about the battery or something else.

Dear all,

1. We are putting this issue as our top priority. Anyone with a similar problem, don't hesitate to report it in Feedback (in left side menu bar) via the SwitchBot App.

2. The root cause is still unclear. The initial investigation points to restart by a low battery level and all timers lost.

3. A firmware update is in the long term plan. We will redesign how to store timer info.

Cheers,

Linda

Hi, replacing the battery seems to have solved the problem. It seems that the device was rebooting and erasing the timers but still able to communicate with my phone when I asked it to. It's strange that the device was so low on battery that it was rebooting but also able to function when it I transmitted a manual command. One way to possibly fix this would be to put a battery low warning and even a battery meter on the dashboard. Right now it is hidden two layers down the settings function. As the device was brand new I didn't think to check the battery level and was not alerted to the low battery by the app.

Thanks for your help. I hope you are able to improve the device with this feedback. The device works well in all other respects.

Well said. A low battery notification/warning would be helpful, as is common on other IoT apps.

Thanks for your suggestions. The low battery warning was placed in the home page previously but it's hidden now because of a battery gauge bug... The warning will be back again...

I've had 2 switchbots (both with lights on them when they activate) and the timers are reliable.

The third one I bought (a few weeks ago) doesn't have the light and doesn't seem to respect the timers set. The battery level is at 100% and the timer setting never gets lost. The firmware version is 4.4, how can I fix this? Is there a reset I could do?

I have submitted feedback via the app.

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback via the app. Our support guy will solve from there. Btw, could you sync the bot clock in the timer setting page, thanks.

La télécommande freebox semble être une telecommande radio et non IR. Impossible de l’ajouter au hub ??

Was working until it tried to update firmware. Now it doesn't even light up. Have another hub that updated and works fine. When I go through the process, after turning from Auto to on it displays a white rectangle box with a blue dot with three dots in it. The bottom says start adding and it freezes there. Bluetooth is on, 2.4 network, and location premission given. Tried cord for working hub and no change. Cleared cache. Finally after freezing it adds a box to the home page with all my hubs and meters That say hub bootloader EC and if I click it it it says unable to connect, move closer. I pressed the reset button on the hub for about ten seconds while in the on position. Help.
